What Is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a skilled talking therapy which is aimed at directing a person’s imagination in such a way to create changes in perception, feelings, thoughts and behaviour. A typical session will discuss the intended changes and therapeutic goals that the client wants to achieve.

Hypnotherapy can be used for almost everyone – all you need is real motivation to make a positive change in your life. 

What is The Process Like?

With our hypnotherapy sessions there is not a one size fits all. People are individuals and react and enjoy different things, therefore our sessions are tailored to fit your needs. We simply start by having a 20 minute free consultation – either face to face or over the internet – where I find out about you and what you would like help with. This also gives you time to find out more about New Way Hypnosis too – the more you know about us then the more relaxed you fee. Our sessions are then tailored for you. We can offer online hypnotherapy sessions using a variety of different tools so that you can feel safe and comfortable in your own home. Or we can offer face to face hypnotherapy sessions from our Milton Keynes based therapy room.

1. Do I lose control when I am hypnotised

No. Hypnosis is a focused state – in fact you can say it is a hyper focused state. Think about when you are daydreaming or singularly focused on one thing. You can still be aware of what is going on around you but you are focused on a specific item or thing. You though are in control – if you do not want to do something then your mind will not let you do it.

2. Am I asleep during hypnotherapy

You will be in a relaxed state during hypnosis but you will not be asleep. (unless you actually wish to be asleep – remember you are in control). You can be aware of everything else around you and most people find hypnosis to be deeply relaxing and a very pleasant experience

3. How do online sessions work?

An online session allows you to enjoy the full benefits of hypnotherapy without leaving the comfort and safety of your own home. You need either a laptop, PC or tablet and we use software such as Zoom or Skype. Just put yourself in a comfortable chair in a quiet space and log in to the meeting.

4. Does hypnotherapy work

Hypnotherapy works for a large number of people, but there are no guarantees. Being fully committed to the process and feeling that you can trust your hypnotherapist are key for the therapy to work. It is also important to keep an open mind, if you feel and convince yourself that something is not going to work then it will not work – after all you have just ‘hypnotised’ yourself also to believe the therapy will not work.

5. How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you will need are dependant on your own requirements and the reasons why you are seeking hypnotherapy. Some services such as stopping smoking can be carried out in a longer one off session. Whilst other issues may require more than one session or even a long term supporting approach. At the consultation we will usually discuss how many sessions you may need – this though is flexible and open to change depending on your needs or progress.



Single Session

Single sessions are usually 60 minutes and consist of conversational therapy plus goal setting.

Sessions can be carried out online or face-to-face at my therapy room.

Will include a recording of the hypnosis session as a downloadable MP3 - you can listen to this at any time in the future.

Purchasing three sessions will have a discount applied.

Stop Smoking Package

One appointment approx 90-120 minutes long or three 60 minute sessions.

Deep Relaxation

A 45 minute session for deep relaxation and mindfulness.

More Details

Mindfulness and deep relaxation sessions can be carried out in a group of as individuals. Prices per group will vary.


About Me

Hi… I am Yvonne Smith and if you have read this far then you will know that I am a professional hypnotherapist based in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. I am here to help clients manage their stress and anxiety, build up self confidence, eliminate phobias and help with weight management.

New Way Hypnosis was started early 2019 and face to face clients can be seen in my therapy room just outside Newport Pagnell. We have plenty of free car parking and easy accessibility. However, I have also been offering more online sessions which can be taken by anyone throughout the world.

I did a year training in hypnotherapy – this was a very intensive course which was one-on-one with my trainer. And I achieved the following qualifications:

  • Clinical Diploma in Hypnotherapy Practice
  • Diploma in Neuro Linguistic Programming
  • Diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Psychotherapy
  • Certificate in Rapid Cognitive Programming
  • Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma 

I also undergo further training each year to keep my skills current.
